To the woman tired of starting over every year, I see you.
I see you scrolling through feeds full of “new year, new you” messages, feeling a mix of both excitement and pressure.
I see you wondering if you can really stick to another strict resolution, another “perfect” plan, knowing full well that it might be just another time you “fall short.”
And I want you to know something important: you don’t have to be perfect to make 2026 your year.
It’s been a little quiet here on the blog, but I’m so thrilled to be back, sharing insight, tips, and encouragement with women like you – women who want real results without giving up the foods they love, without restriction, and without guilt. Women who want to celebrate life, their culture, and find joy, all while feeling strong and confident in their bodies.
Intentions Over Resolutions
If you’ve ever made a New Year’s resolution, you probably know how quickly they can feel like a heavy burden. Or like just another thing to carry on top of everything else you are trying to handle.
“I have to stop eating white rice and start eating brown rice.”
“I’ll never eat sugar again.”
“I’ll work out every day, no excuses.”
“I’ll only eat salads.”
Resolutions often come with a sense of urgency and pressure, and often lead to a very black and white type of thinking. Then when life gets in the way, we feel like we’ve failed.
Intentions, on the other hand, are rooted in mindset, not punishment. They’re not about restriction, they’re about clarity, purpose, and choosing actions that reflect what you truly value.
Let’s break it down.
For example:
- Instead of a resolution: “I will give up carbs to lose weight.”
- Try an intention: “I will enjoy the foods I love while practicing portion control, allowing me to make choices that nourish my body and also support my goals.”
Intentions allow room for flexibility, self-compassion, and real life. They let you celebrate wins instead of focusing on perfection. They help you create a life that feels sustainable, joyful, and aligned with your goals.
Some ways to put intentions into practice in 2026:
- Start small – Choose one or two intentions that feel meaningful, not overwhelming. It’s also okay if these shift a bit throughout the year.
- Focus on how you want to feel – Instead of “I will lose 10 pounds,” try “I will make choices that lead to feeling energized, confident, and strong in my body.” This puts the focus back on what you can actually control.
- Check in regularly – Reflect weekly or monthly: What’s working? What feels off? Adjust, don’t punish.
- Celebrate flexibility – Life happens, and missing a workout or eating a treat isn’t failure – it’s a part of life.
Balance Is the Key
Balance isn’t a magic number or a rigid formula. It’s about finding the harmony between nourishing your body and enjoying the foods, moments, and traditions that bring you joy.
Think of it like this: you can still see results without giving up tacos on Taco Tuesday, arroz con pollo for Sunday dinner, or a slice of pastel at family celebrations. Balance means enjoying these moments without guilt and pairing them with habits that support your long-term goals.
Balance can also be found in how you move your body. It’s about choosing forms of exercise that make your body feel strong and alive, not forcing workouts that you dread. It’s listening to your body’s needs, fueling it thoughtfully, and practicing self-care in a way that feels sustainable.
Some ways to add balance in 2026:
- Practice mindful eating – Savor your favorite foods while paying attention to hunger, fullness, and satisfaction.
- Mix structure with flexibility – Plan for mostly healthy meals, but leave space for spontaneity and joy too!
- Celebrate progress, not perfection – Small wins compound over time. A balanced lifestyle is a sustainable lifestyle.
- Honor your cultural foods – This may be the most important – food is nostalgia, community, connection. You do not have to give these up for better health. It’s all about your relationship with these foods and how much you eat.
Balance doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. It means creating a life where you can have it all – results, energy, joy, AND the foods you love.
